Yellow Jackets vs. North Carolina Tar Heels

24 Sep

Today we woke up to nothing but blue skies and a temperature of 63°. An awesome day for a football game even if it did start to warm up not long after the game kicked off.  It’s also family weekend, so the streets were jammed packed with our team colors, and maybe with a few specs of blue here and there for North Carolina.

Even the dogs had Buzz fever!

Actually, I have to admit North Carolina had a huge amount of support… lots of loud supporters full of spirit, and a great band that tried their best to drown out our band.

In my opinion, this was the best game of the season.  It wasn’t a complete shut down like our last three games, where the opposing teams supporters/fans left half way through the game, leaving us Yellow Jackets to cheer in all of our glory.  It was a back and forth game full of errors, flags, constant turnovers, barely completing touchdowns, and a small amount of rushing yards.  It was down right stressful, but then again I know nothing about football, but I DO know I had a lot of fun and very glad we won!

Just in case you haven’t noticed, something strange has been happening to me.  I am getting into college football.  I have never cared for college games before, only cheering for U of M in the past when a cute guy was near.   But now, I actually look up statistics of  opposing teams before we play them.  I even turned on the T.V. after the game today to watch the last quater of the U of M game and the Virginia Tech game just to get an idea of how the teams are doing for when we play against them.  This is getting ridiculous, who am I becoming?

On a different note, would it be safe to say now that we are 4-0 that maybe, just maybe Luis and I are bringing some luck to Georgia Tech haha.  How many people do you think say that?  Probably lots, but you never know… could be true.

We’re off to a birthday celebration at a new bar that we have never been to on Paces Ferry Road and we all know how happy I get to explore new places!

Yellow Jackets vs. Western Carolina Catamounts

10 Sep

Last week was Georgia Tech’s first football game against Western Carolina. We won 63-21. It was the fifth straight season-opening win for Georgia Tech.

We had an amazing view of the field, not bad for free tickets. I considered this my first real experience with college football and I loved every minute of it. I’ve heard that college football is nothing compared to the Dolphin games I use to attend, and they were right. The crowd’s spirit was unbelievable.

First off it took us 20 minutes to get inside of the stadium since the student Buzz card readers were not working correctly. In those first 20 minutes of the game we scored three touch downs. When Luis and I were able to enter the stadium and find a spot, we were happy to see how close we were to the field and even had space to move around, even though I wouldn’t have minded being elbow to elbow in the crowd. The stadium was packed with gold and white spirit. Once again coming from Dolphin games that have more people in the parking lot tail gating than in the stadium (unless we were winning), it surprised me how full the stadium was and how nice our stadium is since it was our first time actually inside the stadium.

There were some great moves on the field from both sides and some other plays that could use some more work, but being in the stand made it a great first time experience for both of us.

I enjoyed not only the crowd, but the student videos that played on the jumbo tron during the game; one of them mocking our “engineer football team”.

Our band was great and loved their super hero themed half time show. BUT the best was the Swarm crew who kept the crowd pumped with our team mascot Buzz. I kept telling Luis it is my new goal to be a part of the Swarm team, they had the best time and I enjoyed watching them having a blast. I wonder if they keep up that spirit when we are losing?

As tradition goes after the game when we win, the steam whistle blew 63 times. While walking home we watched the fraternities paper the trees and celebrate our win. Even though I am sure they always celebrate win or lose =)  Today we play against Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, who we beat last year.  Let’s see if we can do it again!

Can I just say I love our mascot Buzz!? I love watching his tail bounce around as he we walks. I think he likes me too since both times that I have met him he gave me a hug. Love you Buzz!
