Friends from home for New Years!

3 Jan

My awesome friends drove all night to spend New Years with Luis and I. They arrived at 8 am on New Years Eve and even though I had to work until 10:30 pm it didn’t stop us from ringing in the New Year together.

But, to tell you the truth.. I was so busy cooking and everyone else busy with talking and watching foreign television shows, we almost missed the clock striking midnight. Luckily I just happened to look at the clock to time my mussels and it was 11:59!

We didn’t have any noise makers, or a sing along, or crazy hugging and kissing. Just simple cheers of “happy new years!” to one another.

And then… we had a feast. Which I didn’t take any pictures of all of us gathered around the table… I suck!

Only this one picture of Fabian finishing up the mussels that were cooked in fish stock, heavy cream, garlic, saffron, and tomatoes.

I made chicken scallopine with small potatoes.

Our appetizer of olives, pickles, chips, cheese, and tiny bits of chocolate (it goes great with red wines).

Shortly after this photo, I knocked one of the bowls down and it broke.. very sad about ruining my serving piece.

Raspberry Mojitos

Dani’s awesome mixed drink that she made me, but forgot the name we gave it.. angry something… ?

Lastly, nothing says winter like Peppermint Bark.

(Something that made me smile was finding little pieces of peppermint in someone’s bed.. guess the person really liked them)

Here is what our little place looked like filled with love, luggage, and air beds =)

Now, our little place is feeling very empty… wishing for clutter.

Happy Sunday!

Today’s Obsession

A big thank-you to Dani, who I lovingly call Angry Muffin and her super awesome peppermint bark that she made for me at our goodbye party.  The goodbye party that was a week ago and now I am craving it in a big way!

Today is cold and windy so Luis and I are staying in and attempting to finish off the last of our boxes and play some Rock Band, Beatles. Luis is in a hurry to be completely moved in but, if we have no boxes… then how would we spend our day if we weren’t unpacking and organizing?

And since we are inside because of the wind and cold (Yes, even cold to me since Miami never reaches the 30’s) it brings me to my obsession for today.

Meet my craving and make some peppermint bark and hope it comes out as good as hers.

Not bad for my first time. I am not really a dessert making person. I haven’t made many sweets and hoping to change that in the near future.

Now to get ready for my other obsession… Dexter! What awesomeness… Dexter and peppermint bark!!

We don’t have Showtime so… yea. We are going to try and stream it from Showtime’s website.

Wish us luck!
